Blessings can come at the most unexpected times. One Saturday we thought we should try to go through Kayln’s closet. Going through your loved one’s possessions after their death can be overwhelming, and it is easier to put it off than to face it. As we carefully sorted through her things, we put some items in totes that we weren’t ready to part with, while other things we felt we could donate. We were sitting at the kitchen table going through some smaller items, and by then I was emotionally exhausted and couldn’t stop crying. My son wisely suggested that maybe it was time to stop. I agreed, and as I finished looking through a jewelry box, I spotted a necklace; it was a heart pendant on a silver chain. It was beautiful, and I felt like it was a special treasure meant for me. As I put it on, I could finally smile through my tears. This was a special blessing after a very difficult day, and wearing her necklace makes me feel a little closer to her.
